superstar

While listening to todays gospel,  it occured to me how weird it is that so many people deny the reality of Jesus, when even the demons know who He is.
The newest baby came to see us today. She seemed to like it here...this quote seems to fit her to a tee:
The smile that flickers on baby's lips when she sleeps-
does anybody know where it was borne?
Yes, there is a rumor that a young pale beam of a crescent moon
touched the edge of a vanishing autumn cloud, and there the smile was first born . . . .

summer time

While the ants are over in Superior, we lazy grasshoppers took to the lake.

Jerry stresses, as Peter drives the boat ashore.

Always a smile for the camera!

He's not quite sure how this works.

when the weather's fine

All I can say about todays readings is...Yikes!
For anyone who might be wondering how the roof water is being put to use...it works great for washing little hands and feet!

Things are warm and peaceful in Lakeside these days.

It's been ages since I've done a "burpie". We had to do them in gym way back when.
I was feeling pretty agile so... thought I'd give the ol' burpie a try....bad idea.
Owww my back!
Could I be doing it wrong? I looked it up. The first demonstration (I should have been warned when they were called 'squat thrusts') was called "Real Jock: Gay Fitness"!
Being homophobic, (I hear it's generational) I quickly found a demonstration that was more traditional. After viewing his technique, feeling confident that I could execute a passable burpie, I tried again...
Tadaah!!
Much better.
I'm going to work up to two.

Why would I want to live anywhere else when I can look across the street at this charming scene?

RIP

Martha would have loved her memorial...but I bet she's glad she didn't wait around.

I was trying to watch an interesting movie on IFC this afternoon called American Splendor . There was a lot of traffic here so I was only able to get the basic premise ...I will definitely watch for it again.
This song was worked into the plot... I liked it, hunted for it, and found it...Marvin Gaye...easy on the eyes and ears.

fourth of july

The fourth of July came and went with little fanfare...dining al fresco at a local restaurant with good company.

The turtle that Nathan captured at Susan's cabin, and then released at Curt's girlfriends' pond, had babies...

Nathan is a grampa!

I had such high hopes for this little blanket, but its ending up here.

fly away home

As I approached this little dwelling, the tiniest little bird flew out...

speaking of flying...our latest house guests made it, safely, back to Florida.

The little tyke won't be so anxious to open those doors in a few years.

The last thing I need is a Bridgeman's across the street...I hear the Cappuccino Blast is the yummiest!

foggy blog

Well it's the first day of summer, and I think I put the ol' flannel pajamas away a little too soon. The fog keeps hanging around hiding the sun and keeping the air cool and damp...a little too cool.

Some projects that I tackle are better left undone, but this one was totally enjoyable.

Mr. Turtle looks pretty grumpy...

but the kids were fascinated!

speaking of fascinated.

celebrate

She was more interested in the wheels at first..
but with a little coaxing from Dad, she was soon in the saddle

Pizza Mia was a big hit with the Birthday Girl!

A shot with Mom and daughter would have been nice...but Mom said...

"we don't do photos very well"... Maybe next year.

I've been thinking

Mary, the child of my old age stepped out last night, so I was in charge of getting her little one to bed. When he tried pulling "blanky" out of his crib, I knew it was time for bed. I got him into his bed clothes, and put him into the crib. He screamed the "I'm not ready for bed!" memo. He was not happy. I let him fuss for several minutes, went back in and picked him up. We sat in the big chair by the fire to relax and regroup. He tried getting comfortable ratting around in my lap, occasionally resting his head on blanky... he knew something wasn't right. He wandered around the house, yawning and dragging his trusty blanket from one room to the other, trying to figure out how he was going to make this work. He toddled into his room and was in there for several minutes. I peeked around the corner so he wouldn't see me. There he was lying next to his crib clutching his blanket. I had an instant feeling of extreme disappointment, thinking selfishly...."I'm gonna be sad if he falls asleep there, preferring the floor to my lap."
I waited... pretty soon he walks out of his room, over to my chair, blanky in hand. I pick him up, he nestles in, I put him in his crib. This time he was OK with it... all was well.

The imagery in today's first reading is intoxicating ...."a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, their camels laden with gum, balm and resin."
I wonder if Joseph's brother, Reuben was the inspiration for a song I learned years ago in school. It's amazing how politically incorrect it is in this day and age. First of all to find the words "queer" and "gay" used in their original context made me wistful. The last stanza is truly the sweetest proposal I've ever heard.

Reuben, Reuben I've been thinking
What a fine world this would be
If the men were all transported
Far beyond the Northern sea!

Oh my goodness gracious Rachel
What a queer world this would be
If the men were all transported
Far beyond the Northern sea!

Reuben, Reuben I've been thinking
What a gay life girls would lead
If they had no men about them,
None to tease them, none to heed.

Reuben, Reuben stop your teasing,
If you've any love for me,
I was only just a-fooling
As I thought, of course, you'd see.

Rachel, if you'll not transport us,
I will take you for my wife,
And I'll split with you my money
Every payday of my life.

Fargo

Quincy's full of vim and vigor!

Lucy loves KitKats, and so do I.

We enjoyed a pleasant dining experience Monday night for Louis' 39th birthday
with Ari, Shari and Dag.

simple pleasures

I think I'll read this every day during lent to keep me focused.

We behold Christ as the Bridegroom of the Church,
bearing the marks of suffering,
yet preparing a marriage feast for us in God's Kingdom.

No fasting for these two...only abstinence.

The waxing crescent moon and Venus setting in the west...very cool.

maundy monday

A week ago she could hardly hold a spoon...

and now she's shoveling it in like a trouper... or maybe a super trouper!

The new do looks, relatively, tame in the morning..but by the end of the day it's pretty wild.

What a fun thing to try with a dumb mini-blind!

obi-wan

Our favorite West Enders made supper for us on Valentines day...we had enough Shrimp Pasta for the whole weekend!

Another thing comes to mind when I think of the Selma Hyak incident is a movie I saw on IFC ( off beat films mostly) ...Tsotsi . I remember I watched it on a hot summer afternoon and the characters stayed with me for the rest of the day.

To a much lighter subject, my yarny projects have kind of taken a back seat to the sewing machine. I purchased a pattern , quickly stitched up a top, and discovered my new favorite accessory... the obi.

I found a pair of shoes that will fit my injury.

ladies day

We're waiting for the day when the birds come to feast on the Mountain Ash berries.
When we tried to fit three babies together in the sled we were met with much protest.
Maria was at the bottom of the pile so she got to stay.

low ride

Father, being type a personality, said, "Imagine the consternation the owner of the house must have felt when they broke open his roof."He aptly commented that the paralytic depended on the "borrowed faith" of the four men who lowered him...a very comforting thought.

It's the end of the world as we know it....

now that he can climb the stairs.

Why am I obsessed with learning to knit socks when I can get these for a dollar a pair?
